  THE ACTUAL STARTING OF GARDENING AS A HOBBY (Disclosure: Pictures are taken from internet and acknowledged with thanks) Now that I had decided on taking up gardening as a hobby, I took stock of what I needed. INSTRUMENTATION: Definite instruments are: Gloves A cloth apron with a pocket in front A washable pair of shoes Hand trowel Spade Hand Fork Rake A crow bar or a long instrument to loosen up the soil  Scissors Pruning Shears or secateurs Container for storing the fertilizer, compost, insecticide. Watering can or pot or bucket And of course a lot of patience!😊😊 There are obviously other optional instruments  which are available in the market to suit one’s budget. CHOICE OF WHAT TO PLANT: Though there are choices of a vegetable or a flower garden, I opted to go for both, to get the best of both the worlds.   INITIAL PREPARATORY STEPS OF GARDENING AS A HOBBY I recently started gardening more out of necessity. It started not so dramatically. We had a young gardener to look after a small area in front of our house for visits every 2-3 months. He was good and the garden looked very good after one or two days of his visit. Somehow he became too busy. We could not get a good replacement for him. In the meanwhile covid-19 hit the world. It was even more difficult to get folks to help with the garden. So I read up on gardening and took it up. First took a trip upto to the shops for tools, gloves, a pruning scissors and a shearer for the branches. We already had a small crow bar, spades and shovels for digging. When I tried my hand at gardening, I realised my thick leather-like gloves were too bulky for trimming, etc. Water also soaked it easily and it took so long to dry.
